Sidney graduation requirements:
- All classes have 3 parts for meeting graduation requirements: earning high school credits required, and then testing requirements. The class of 2023 and beyond has additional requirements which is earning Graduation Seals.
PART 1 - 21 Credits for Graduation
2 seasons of playing school athletics or Marching Band can fulfill Physical Education Requirement (PLEASE FILL OUT P.E. WAIVER FORM, SEE BELOW) Students must be enrolled in at least: 5 credits for athletic eligibility |
Part 2- End of Course Exams & Competency
Classes of 2023 and Beyond Each student is required to take Ohio's End-of-Course state exams. These exams are given upon completion of certain classes, with makeups offered every December. Earning Competency is a graduation requirement, to earn competency, students need to get 684 on their Algebra 1 and English 10 state exam Obtaining a score of "1" will result in the student automatically being asked to retake the exam during makeups. Ohio Means Jobs Readiness Seal |
To earn the OhioMeansJobs-Readiness Seal, motivated high school students must demonstrate certain professional skills required for success in the workplace. Students work with at least three experienced and trusted mentors who validate the demonstration of these skills in school, work or the community. |
Industry Recognized Credential Seal |
Earning an industry-recognized credential and a WorkKeys score of 13 (14 for students in the class of 2020 and beyond) is one of three pathways to earn a high school diploma. |
College Readiness Seal |
The two tests that meet this pathway are the ACT and SAT. Colleges and universities use the ACT and SAT to determine student readiness for the rigors of higher education. These institutions generally expect that students who earn "remediation-free" scores will be able to succeed in their college courses. |
Military Enlistment Seal |
Competency can be achieved by meeting the requirement to enlist in the military, as demonstrated by a contract with the military upon graduation. |
Citizenship Seal |
A student can: Earn a score of proficient or higher on both the American history and American government end-of-course exams; Earn a score that is at least equivalent to proficient on appropriate Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate exams; or Earn a final course grade that is equivalent to a “B” or higher in appropriate classes taken through the College Credit Plus program. |
Science Seal |
A student can: Earn a score of proficient or higher on the biology end-of-course exam; Earn a score that is at least equivalent to proficient on appropriate Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate exams; or Earn a final course grade that is equivalent to a “B” or higher in an appropriate class taken through the College Credit Plus program |
Technology Seal |
A student can Earn a score that is at least equivalent to proficient on an appropriate AP or Earn a final course grade that is equivalent to a “B” or higher in an appropriate class taken through the College Credit Plus program; or Complete a course offered through the district or school that meets guidelines developed by the Department. (A district or school is not required to offer a course that meets those guidelines.) |
Honors Diploma Seal |
High school students can gain state recognition for exceeding Ohio’s graduation requirements through an honors diploma. Ohio students have the opportunity to choose to pursue one of six honors diplomas. |
Seal of Biliteracy |
This seal recognizes graduating seniors who can demonstrate high levels of proficiency in English and at least one other language. A school or district gives this award by following state-established guidelines |

Student Engagement Seal |
A student must participate in school-related activities such as athletics, clubs and organizations, according to the guidelines adopted by the Sidney Board of Education. *The student will successfully complete four (4) units from the following, as reported by the coach/supervisor: -A season in school-sponsored sport -A year in a school-sponsored club as approved by admin |
Community Service Seal |
A student must participate in service-related activities according to the guidelines adopted by the Sidney Board of Education. * The student will complete a total of eight (8) service hours across a minimum of four (4) different service-based activities/events. (example - Salvation Army Red Kettle; Special Olympics; Big Brothers/Big Sisters; YMCA; Animal Shelter; AGAPE; Alpha Center) *Each event must be pre-approved by the high school administrative team. * A supervising adult signature verifying completion of activity must be on file at the high school |
Fine and Performing Arts |
A student must demonstrate skills in the area of fine or performing arts according to the guidelines adopted by the Sidney Board of Education. OPTION #1 *The student will successfully complete TWO (2) full credits in the area of fine and performing arts. This includes coursework in Art, Choir, Band, Orchestra, among others approved by your counselor prior to enrolling. OPTION #2 *Earn one full credit of a "classroom" based course. This includes coursework in Art, Choir, Band, Orchestra, among others approved by your counselor prior to enrolling AND *Earn a full performance-based unit (not credit toward graduation) by successfully participating in the school play, drama club, or other school or non-school sponsored performance-based fine arts activity. Such activities must be pre-approved by the high school administrative team. |

Early Graduation
Students who wish to graduate early must be able to fulfill all graduation requirements and must apply (forms are available in the Counseling Office). A senior who wishes to graduate at the end of first semester their senior year must apply by August 30th. A Junior who wishes to graduate at the end of their junior year must notify and apply by August 30th as well.
